INCREASING YOUR CAREER OPPORTUNITIES Co-curricular Activities"People skills" are very important in any career. Those skills are developed through interaction with students and faculty in curricular and co-curricular activities. People evaluating you for a position will look for evidence of your ability to interact with people. You can demonstrate these skills by your interaction with the interviewer and document them by the activities given on your resume. Of most importance are the offices you have held or responsibilities discharged as a member of a student organization. ExperienceWork experience is valuable to you in several ways. It can make you more positive that you have made the correct career decision. It may also show you that you are not interested in a certain type of career before you invest time and money in completing a degree program. It will make you more valuable in the eyes of potential employers because you can bring to that employer the experiences beyond the classroom. Consider the following experience opportunities. Cooperative Education ProgramIn a Cooperative Education program, you gain valuable experience during work experiences that alternate with semesters at NDSU. Co-op programs provide financial benefits while in college, increased employment opportunities, and higher starting salaries. Internships are often scheduled during the sophomore, junior, and senior year. Contact the Cooperative Education Office (Ceres 306) or your advisor if you are interested in a Co-op program.
