What graduate degree programs are offered?
There are currently two types of degree programs offered.
They include:
- Master of Science in Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering – M.S. ABEN
- Doctoral Program in Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering – Ph.D. ABEN
- Doctoral Program in Engineering – Ph.D. ENGR
Is there any preparatory coursework that is required before entrance?
Minimum: BS degree in ABET (or equivalent) engineering program.

When can I enroll in the program?
Applicants can begin the program in any of the three semesters: Fall, Spring, and Summer.
What are the deadlines for turning in applications?
Complete applications should be submitted at least two months prior to the beginning of the semester in which you plan to enroll.

What are there minimum GRE and TOFEL scores required for admission consideration?
A GRE test score is not required but it is recommended. A minimum TOFEL test score of 550 (paper-based) or 213 (computer-based) is required for consideration.
Is there a requirement in the number of classes I need to take per semester?
No, the ABEN program is very flexible in that students can choose, with the assistance of their major advisor, how many classes they wish to take per semester. Continuous enrollment is recommended.
What is the length of time it will take to complete a degree?
The length of time to complete a degree depends on the program you enter, the number of courses taken per semester, and the time required by your research project. A general time frame is typically 2 years for the MS degree and an additional 2-3 years for the PhD degree.
How many full-time faculty members are currently in the ABEN Department, and how many of these faculty members hold doctorates or other terminal degrees?
There are currently 10 full time faculty members, and 6 have terminal degrees. The majority of the faculty members perform research in their respective fields, and this adds to the classroom experience in that students receive cutting edge instruction and are kept current with emerging technology. Several faculty have industry experience, which adds to the educational experience.
(A terminal degree is the highest academic qualification you can earn in your field.)
