Abstract:
Tools are needed to evaluate and compare different available feed stocks, and process parameters and modifications for bio diesel production. To address this need, a bio diesel process model was developed with commonly used spreadsheet software and process-engineering principles. The basis of the model is a continuous process with two stirred-tank reactors and sodium methoxide catalysis.

"Best Processing Methods for Edible Flaxseed Oil"
Abstract:
Cold-pressed flaxseed oil is an excellent source of dietary alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). However, the breakdown of ALA in the oil, especially because of defective seed and improper processing and storage, may cause unacceptable flavors. Performance testing was completed for two small-commercial-scale screw presses identified operation procedures for satisfactorily pressing flaxseed for edible oil. One of these presses was also able to satisfactorily press dehulled flaxseed and flaxseed hulls, which is of commercial interest because the hulls can be used as a concentrated source of a valuable phytochemical (SDG). One advantage of pressing dehulled flaxseed for oil is the reduced friction and resulting lower oil temperature. Sensory characteristics of flaxseed oil were determined for flaxseed oil samples representing a range of quality, using a trained panel. Sensory scores for bitterness were found to correlate with certain volatiles obtained from the oil headspace via solid-phase microextraction. Flaxseed oil samples refrigerated for 15 weeks showed only minor changes in sensory scores and volatile content.

Abstract:
Sensors/Sensing techniques have been developed to determine Sugar contents of Sugarbeet crops in field conditions. Similar inventions have been developed to determine Protein contents of Wheat grain. Three U.S. Patents have been approved on these works. These techniques can be used for determining constituents of other biological products.
